The Multi-Tool
matte black, engraved
Placeholder copy · final product writing to come
Some things you buy once. This is built to be one of them — machined to a weight you feel the moment it lands in your palm, finished in matte black that dulls rather than chips, with the wordmark engraved into the steel instead of printed onto it so that thirty years of pockets and glove boxes cannot wear it off.
It is a working object first and a branded one second, which is the correct order and an unusual one. The mark sits at the base, muted, where the hand covers it in use. You will know it is there. Nobody across the table will.
Every function on it earns its place or it is not on it. There is no corkscrew for the sake of a longer list on the box, no blade angled so poorly that you reach for a different tool anyway. What is here opens, tightens, cuts, and pries, and it does each of those well enough that you stop keeping a backup in the drawer.
The test we keep coming back to is simple. Would he have kept it in a drawer for thirty years, used it for everything, and handed it to somebody without a word about where it came from or what it cost? If the answer is no, it does not get made.
